I was born in a family of peasants in Macedonia, but my family became a most glorious one. The other emperor Michael III had to die. I had a biography written, you'll find all the reasons for my actions there (Emperor Basil I, 9th century).

I served under emperor Heraclius. But I gave up and became a monk.I studied all pagan philosophers: Plato, Aristotle, and neoplatonists. I think the Chalcedonians were right: Jesus had a human and a divine will. But for my teachings they sent me into exile, far away in Georgia.

I was born in the city of Naissus and my mother was a Thracian. I always wanted to go to wars and then make peace. My times were brutal but I tried to make friends. I thought the city of Byzantium would make a great spot for the new Rome.
